Special Circus Bedroom

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A very lucky little girl is getting the bedroom makeover of her dreams.

Lanecia Smith, of Cleveland, has always loved the circus, and now she’ll have one of her very own to sleep in every night thanks to the Ringling Brothers and Special Spaces.

The 10-year-old has sickle-cell and has had to undergo a lot of treatments.

“They spend all this time in the hospital and in treatment centers and surrounded by things dealing with treatment, and this is a way for them to come home and have a space to themselves and it’s a special space,” said Dan DiPietro-James from Feld Entertainment.

He said they had plenty of help from local volunteers, including some employees from the “Q” Arena and a few members of the Cleveland Gladiators.

Lanecia wasn’t home during any of the remodeling. She spent the day getting pampered. She went out to lunch with her grandma and sister, and then got her face painted like a clown, by a clown from the circus.

While that was happening, crews were hard at work. They painted her room, put in new furniture and decorated, too.

When they were done, it was time for the big reveal. Lanecia showed up in a limo and was escorted into her home with the Ring Master.

“They did a good job,” she said with a big smile on her face.

Her grandma, Carol Byers, has been taking care of Lanecia since she was three days old and said this means so much to her.

“She’s been through a lot of pain crisis. She’s has three surgeries and she just recently had a surgery where she had her gallbladder removed, but she’s a trooper,” she said.

The Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus is in town at the “Q” Arena all week long.

Save The Historic Venice Circus Arena

From the Save the Venice Circus Arena Facebook page…

Still Hope –

Our Foundation has been kicked to the curb by the City once more. Most would think we should just hang it up and stop trying to preserve that which WE believe is truly our most precious commodity and resource. Like pit bulls this only makes us madder and more resolved to DO SOMETHING!!!! We have put together this possible scenario. I personally have called upon Gulf Coast Community Foundation, Ringling Sarasota, Selby Foundation, Community Foundation of Sarasota County, etc., etc., etc., for emergency help. NOW I ASK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!

Here is what we have been working on.
BUY – the arena steel and move it off the Island.
COST – $500,000.00 for the steel and the land to move it to. (Sound like a lot until you realize that is what the Airport was going to charge us every year, so its a bargain)
TIMELINE – NOW weeks not months.

WE NEED OUR 100,000 STRONG MORE THAN EVER. PLEASE DONATE TODAY, WE CAN’T WAIT! THANK YOU!
Your donation is tax deductible. We still seek naming rights for the newly located arena!

The Venice Circus Arts Foundation is seeking donors to help them restore and preserve the Venice Circus Arena, the former winter headquarters for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

Please participate in the 100,000 STRONG giving challenge. When 100,000 people donate $20 or more gets them to first base with the restoration. If you donate $125.00 or more they will send you an authentic arena seat and back along with your certificate of contribution.

Join our team of individuals working together to bring the circus arts back to Venice. With the restoration of the historic Venice Depot, the excitement of the circus and the arrival of the circus train is being preserved, along with a commemorative statue of Gunther Gebel-Williams.

The Venice Circus Arts Foundation, Inc., (classified under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3)) is working to preserve the parcel of land behind the Venice Arena, once the winter quarters for the “Greatest Show on Earth.” This special place in American Circus History is in danger of disappearing with current plans for commercial development of the site.

The Venice Circus Arts Foundation, Inc. wants to reintroduce Venice (and the world) to its marvelous history. Your support and commitment will make you a vital part of the team working to preserve the circus arts.
