International Clown Week at Showmen’s Rest

17th Annual Celebration of International Clown Week at Showmen’s Rest

From August 1 thru August 7, clowns all over the world will be clowning around for International Clown Week. We are the official Chicagoland location in celebration of this event.

This event is a loving and festive remembrance of circus artists past, held in the nation’s most well known final resting place for circus artists, remembered especially for its elephant statues and roustabout headstones. This event includes speakers, laying of flowers, circus arts performances, LOTS of fun stuff for kids including activities and entertainment and contests with prizes, snacks and drinks, and many many many clowns. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and a youthful attitude.

Performers (clowns, acrobats, jugglers, etc) are welcome to come in costume and to share your talents at the end of the ceremony.

**There are no animals at this event.

COAI Open Offices

Open Appointment Officers Call

COAI has three (3) offices declared vacant and up for appointment. These positions (offices) are: South Central Regional Vice President, North Central Regional Vice President, and Northwest Regional Vice President. These positions represent COAI within these geographical regions. Candidates for Regional Vice President (RVPs) must reside fulltime in the region they represent. RVPs work with existing alleys in planning, organizing, and staging of regional conventions; assist with membership concerns; and oversee the administration of all COAI programs. They are required to report regional activities to the board and the general membership, attend board meetings, and attend the annual convention.

Term of office is set to begin the first day after appointment in 2016 and continues until June 31, 2018. If you are interested in filling this position, please send a declaration for office and a photo (in and out of clown). The process is similar to our current policy for nomination declarations. Include your qualifications and what you feel you can bring to the COAI Board. Declarations will be given to the new COAI President, and the new board will make the final appointment to fill this vacancy as soon as possible after July 1, 2016.

Deadline to receive the declarations is July 1, 2016.

WCA Insurance

The following comes from the World Clown Association about their insurance…

It’s that time of year when the World Clown Association offers our new insurance policy. After analyzing the needs of our members and discussing options with our insurance provider, we are happy to once again offer the best affordable option in insurance to you.
WCA insurance specifics for United States members:

1. Cost is $150. The policy runs from May 1 through the end of April 2017 however you can join anytime.

2. You receive one million dollars in coverage per occurrence, and 2 million dollars per event. While this is a group policy the limits are per event. So if someone has a claim the limits reset for the next event.

3. Our WCA policy is a non-deductible policy. What that means is that if you have a claim against you, you don’t need to worry about paying anything. WCA insurance coverage starts at the first dollar.

4. Here’s something new for 2015: In the past, a performer could add an “additional insured” for $30. These are generally venues that are asking to be added onto a policy (fairs, malls, hotels, libraries, etc.). WCA leadership has made the decision to no longer charge for this extra add-on. You will receive as many “Additional Insured” certificates/coverage as you need for FREE when you have WCA insurance!

6. We want our Canadian members to be aware that insurance coverage may be obtained in Canada from our “sister organization,” CLOWNS CANADA. For more information on that go to http://www.clownscanada.ca/.
